We are looking forward to having you join the UND Music Department this fall as a new music major. We are pleased to welcome you to the region’s most comprehensive music department, with exciting and diverse offerings in a friendly and personal atmosphere among professors and students. Please find below important information that you will need to know.
All new music majors are required to attend our New Music Major Orientation Day scheduled for Monday, August 20, 2007, in the Hughes Fine Arts Center (HFAC). Please find below a schedule of events for the day.

9:30 a.m. Applied Music Placement Auditions
Keyboard Skills Proficiency Testing (optional)
11:30 a.m. Lunch (provided by Music Department)

1:30 p.m. Applied Music Placement Auditions (continued)
Please find enclosed information concerning the Applied Music Placement Auditions and Keyboard Skills Proficiency Testing. Students have the option of testing out of any or all of the Keyboard Skills courses.
All incoming music majors should initially enroll in MUSC 130 Diatonic Harmony and MUSC 131 Aural Skills I. A placement examination will be given in the first class meeting to test incoming students’ knowledge of music fundamentals. See the enclosed document for information about the Music Theory Placement Exam
Auditions for all music ensembles are held during the first week of classes. Students may sign up for audition times during Orientation Day. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. See you on August 20!
