Stephen Oberheu is the adjunct professor of tuba and euphonium at the University of North Dakota. Originally from Danville, Virginia, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Virginia Tech. He then went on to complete an advanced performance diploma at the Lausanne Conservatory with Roger Bobo in Switzerland, and then completed his Master's Degree in tuba performance at the University of Southern California under the tutelage of Tommy Johnson. During the 2003-2004 season, Stephen was principal tuba of the Orquesta Sinfonica UANL in Monterrey, Mexico. He has performed with several regional orchestras and chamber groups in the U.S., Europe, Mexico and Canada. An enthusiastic and encouraging teacher, Stephen has always found time to teach tuba and euphonium students wherever he lives. Since 2005, Stephen makes his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he is active as a teacher and freelance performer. He composes in his spare time and also contributes periodically as a writer for Tubanews.com. In addition to his responsibilities at UND, Stephen is the principal tuba of the Grand Forks Symphony and performs with the UND faculty brass quintet.
