Louise Pinkerton, soprano, is an active performer in operas, musicals, oratorios, and recitals and has been named “one of North Dakota’s outstanding young singers.”  She sings a wide variety of roles, from Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte to Laurey in Oklahoma!.  She has performed in several opera premieres including Irene in the American premiere of the Finnish opera House of the Sun at Opera in the Ozarks.  Louise has appeared with the Fargo-Moorhead Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, Greater Grand Forks Symphony, Crimson Creek Players, the Contemporary Opera Lab in Canada, and the Rome Festival Opera in Italy.  A frequent competition winner, she won the 2004 Vivian Menees Nelson Music Award, was a Semi-Finalist in the 2006 William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition, and was a two-time Regional Finalist and North Dakota District Winner in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions.  She regularly performs at state and national music conferences. 

Louise’s poster presentation, “A Speech Therapy Approach to Lyric Diction,” for the 2006 National Conference of the National Association of Teachers of Singing was well received, and she will be presenting on the same topic this Fall at the North Dakota Arts and Humanities Summit.  Active in the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity (SAI), Louise presented a workshop at the 2006 National Convention and was a panelist and performer at the 2003 National Convention.  Louise previously served as a national office for Sigma Alpha Iota and currently serves on the National Arts Associate Committee, which reviews applications for honorary membership in SAI.  Locally, Louise is the Financial Advisor to Mu Chapter at UND.  She also writes and edits feature articles for Pan Pipes, the SAI journal.  As an undergraduate member of SAI, Louise received Chapter and Province Leadership Awards and was nominated for SAI’s highest collegiate honor, the National Leadership Award.  Louise is an Artist-in-Residence for the North Dakota Council on the Arts and offers an Opera Adventure Residency for middle school and elementary school students.  Her biography is included in the Marquis Who’s Who in America.

Louise received a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of North Dakota and her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.  She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the National Association of Music Clubs and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity.  She previously taught at Minnesota State University Moorhead and Mayville (ND) State University.
