UND FLAG AND RIFLE LINE

2008-2009 Coach - Jessica Haas
2008-2009 Section Leader - Lisa Wersinger

The UND Flag and Rifle Line provides the visual for The Pride of the North Marching Band.  The guard performs with the marching band during football season and then has an opportunity to perform with the drumline during the spring semester.  At UND, you can spin flags and rifles all year ‘round!

The Flag and Rifle Line uses 5 ½ and 7 foot poles, as well as double flags and rifles.  In the past, we’ve also used hula hoops and sashes.  Who knows what’s in store for this season!  Because many of the members have experience, we incorporate dance into our routines as well.  Don’t have dance experience but still want to be in the guard?  No problem, we’ll work with you to make sure you’re comfortable with the work.

Even if you’ve never spun anything before, let alone a flag or rifle, WE STILL WANT YOU!  Our coach, section leader, and veteran members are willing to put in extra time with anyone who wants it!

We’re a close-knit team that works hard to perform great!  If you want to make new friends, get class credit for performing, plus have the best seats in the house for the UND football games, the Flag and Rifle Line is for you!

The Color Guard meets for the first time on Monday, August 17th for marching band camp.  This is an intense and fun week, plus, if you’re new to campus, the guard can take you on a tour to help you find your classes.

Introducing our new coach, Emily Hanson! The Pride’s colorguard director for the 2009 season is Emily Hanson.  Emily is from Eden Prairie Minnesota where she was both active in the fall colorguard as well as in the winterguard for four years.  She was a section leader and received both a Silver and Gold medal performing with the winterguard in the Scholastic A class at the North Star Circuit Championships.  Emily has also performed in the WGI World Championships.

Emily was chosen in 2008 to be a member of the Drum Corps International group, the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corp.  Her team placed 8th in the DCI World Class Championships in Bloomington, Indiana in 2008, and she is looking forward to marching with the Blue Stars again this coming summer.

Emily is majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Sign Language.  She also plays the clarinet in the UND wind ensemble and is looking forward to coaching the colorguard for 2009.
