A University of North Dakota Piper Seminole twin-engine aircraft landed Thursday morning at Grand Forks International Airport with its landing gear in the retracted position, what’s known in aviation circles as a “gear-up landing.” It was a dual training flight with both a student pilot and an instructor pilot aboard the aircraft.
Alan (Al) Palmer, director of the flight operations at the UND John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences (UND Aerospace), said there were no injuries sustained by either the student pilot or the instructor.
Palmer said UND Aerospace officials called a 24 hour standown—all UND flights were canceled from the time of the accident for 24 hours. Operations were scheduled to resume at noon Friday.
